What should I go for PSM or PSPO?
With so many Agile and Scrum Certifications, you would be wondering which one to take. Here is a quick guide for you to decide which certification you may want to take. The choice is yours!
1. If you are already performing a role of a Scrum Master or Product Owner, the choice is clear. The PSM will help you gain proficiency as a Scrum Master whereas the PSPO will help you gain proficiency as a Product Owner.
2. If you feel that you are already proficient and experienced in one of these, you may want to explore a career progression by seeking a change of role. If you are already doing well say as a Scrum Master and need a change in role, the Product Owner role can be a natural progression and extension. In that event, a PSPO Certification can be relatively easy to go after, as you have already learned the ropes as a Scrum Master. The same is true for the move from being a Product Owner to a Scrum Master.
3. If you have performed the role of a developer, it is possible that you may be more comfortable in the role of a Scrum Master (and hence the PSM certification). On the other hand, if you have been a Business Analyst or have performed a domain expert / SME role till now, you may be inclined more towards the Product Owner role (and hence PSPO Certification).
4. If facilitation and helping others comes naturally to you, it is likely that you can excel in the role of a Scrum Master (and hence PSM). If you are good at explaining a functionality or documenting how the software works or defining the process flowcharts, you may have the potential to be a Product Owner(and hence PO).
5. If you are new in IT or have a team role and simply get a credential in Scrum, PSM is suitable for you. On the other hand, if you are performing the role of a customer and want to align with agile, the PSPO certification is the closest fit for you to participate as a key stakeholder in Scrum
6. If you already have a CSM Certification from Scrum Alliance, it may be good to complement that with a certfication of PSPO. Similarly, you can do a PSM certification to complement your CSPO Certification.
6. If you have over 10 months experience in Agile and in total 3 years of experience in software projects, you may want to explore PMI ACP Certification instead. Select the PMI ACP Training from the Workshops Menu above.

Q. Why is the training combined for PSM and PSPO Certifications?
A. GetCoached.in believes in giving you value for your time and money. Since the majority of the learning contents are the same for both the certifications, we felt it will help you to get the knowledge on both via a common training, and not require to spend additionally. Also, it allows you to have the flexibility to decide which of the two certifications you want to go for (or for both). Additionally you get the knowledge required for both the roles through one common training!
Q. What is the eligibility criteria for the PSM or PSPO Certification?
A. There is no eligibility criteria for these certifications. Any person can take these. However, it is recommended that if you plan to be doing Agile work in the future or are currently in any role in Agile, you could go for these certifications.
Q. In a nutshell, what does PSM and PSPO cover?
A. PSM & PSPO cover all the key aspects of the Scrum Framework and is based on the Scrum Guide. While PSM has more focus on the Scrum Master role, PSPO covers more aspects of the Product Owner role. Regardless, in the two days, we cover content meant for both certifications plus some additional information too.
Q. Do you guarantee that I will pass the Certification?
A. Actually, no one can guarantee that, but what the trainer does guarantee is that he will cover the entire scope of the certification content, answer all your queries, ensure that you have understood all the topics. Beyond that, whether you pass or not will depend on your extent of studies, how you use your experience for the answers, your speed of reading, your level of practice in terms of mock tests, and last but not the least, time management. So far, the track record has been that 0 participants have failed, after getting the trainer's go ahead
Q. If I have enough Agile experience, should I go for a higher level certification?
A. Yes. If you have around 10 months of Agile project experience in addition to 2 years in any project in any role, you can go for PMI ACP Certification, which is one of the best among the certifications. CLICK HERE to visit the GetCoached.in/ACP Training page for its details.
Q. What book(s) do I need to refer, for studying for the exam?
A. The Scrum Guide is the officially recommended booklet to study for the exam. There are also additional reading resources given for the study (refer the Useful Links tab) In addition, the training deck with the audio recordings will help you in your preparation.
Q. What is the fee for the PSM and PSPO exam?
A. For the PSM Exam the fee is US $150. For the PSPO Exam, the fee is US $200. This is besides the training fee charged by GetCoached.in
Q. How long do I need to study to pass the exam in the first attempt?
A. Generally, people take 2 to 4 weeks to be ready. It depends on the available time, reading speed, grasping power, experience and mock exam scores. If you are able to devote 2 hours every day then you should be able to sail through in 3-4 weeks. If you put in more hours of preparation on weekends, you can do it much earlier. In all, an approximate time of 60 hours would suffice.
Q. When do I know that I am ready to give the exam?
A. If you are consistently scoring around 90% in the various mock exams, you can consider yourself to be ready for the certification exam. However, please note that this is not a guarantee, but a good indicator. You never know what questions will come your way on the exam day. It is best to check with the trainer before you pay for the exam.
Q. What if I do not pass the exam in the first attempt?
A. Ideally this should not happen. However, you can give a repeat attempt after preparing once again. You need to pay fees again, at $150 for PSM or $200 for PSPO.
Q. What kind of exam is the PSM / PSPO?
A. You need to answer 80 objective questions in 1 hour. There is no negative marking. This will be an online exam from the convenience of your home or office. It needs a steady internet connection and a regular browser is all that is required. There is no invigilation or web cam requirement. Your questions will be either requiring to select one of the answers as the right one, or multiple answers (check boxes).
Q. What is the passing score for the exam?
A. You need to get 85% answers correct in the exam, to pass the exam. This means that 68 of your answers need to be correct out of 80. You get to know the results immediately after the exam.
Q. What makes GetCoached.in better than other institutes?
A. You need a trainer with tons of relevant experience. You expect to be trained by someone who has been there in the trenches and helped Agile teams to succeed. You need to talk with someone who has experiences across large, medium and small organizations to give you the right examples. You need a trainer that has trained some of the top organizations in the country for Agile. Along with the quality, you also need an organization who will not charge you too much, and yet get comprehensive training content that helps you get ready for the exam without the need to read 5 other books. And last but not the least, you need support from the same trainer who taught you, rather than speaking to a call center. When you get all of this from GetCoached.in, you need not look any further!
Q. Is it necessary for the trainer or the institute to be registered with Scrum.org?
A. No, it is not necessary that the training or trainer should be authorized from Scrum.org. You can even do self learning, but to increase your speed of learning and to get the right support and guidance, it is better to take the training. Please contact us on +91-9822603367 if you need more information about this.
Q. How long is the Certification valid?
A. There is no expiry date for Certification. This has a life long validity.
Q. Is there any time limit from the time I get trained, to get certified?
A. There is no time limit for appearing for the certification exam. It has no dependency on when you did your training or when you paid the fees for the exam. However, it is recommended that you do this as early as possible so that you can take advantage of the fresh knowledge you have gained during the training.
